(A Kinase (PRKA) Anchor Protein 8 (AKAP8))
Alternative Name
AKAP8/AKAP95
Background
Background: AKAP8/AKAP95 has been characterized as a 95 kDa protein kinase A (PKA)-anchoring protein and regulatory subunit of PKA that functions to recruit the condensin complex for chromosome condensation during mitosis. A role in DNA replication has also been demonstrated through its interaction with the pre-replication complex component, MCM2 (mini-chromosome maintenance 2). Inhibition of AKAP8/AKAP95 association with MCM2 inhibits replication initiation and elongation in vitro. AKAP8/AKAP95 has also been shown to be involved in apoptosis. KAP8/AKAP95 associates with caspase 3 and serves as a carrier to transport caspase 3 from the cytoplasm to the nucleus to induce morphological changes in the nucleus.
