Background
- Background: PARP1 (Poly-ADP-ribose polymerase 1) is a member of PARP family of enzymes that transfer the ADP-D-ribosyl group of NAD(+) to an acceptor carboxyl group on proteins. PARP1 catalyzes the poly-ADP-ribosylation of histone and non-histone proteins in response to DNA damage. The over-activation of PARP-1 in response to DNA damage has been shown to promote cell and tissue injury. This observation has initiated research into the therapeutic potential of PARP1 inhibitors in the treatment of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and brain injury.
