Background
- Background: Shootin-1 is involved in the generation of internal asymmetric signals required for neuronal polarization. It acts upstream of PI3K (phosphoinositide 3-kinase) by being required for spatially localized PI3K activity. Shootin-1 accumulates asymmetrically in a single neurite before polarization, leading to axon induction for polarization [taken from the Universal Protein Resource (UniProt) A0MZ66].
