    Background
Background: INT1 was first identified as KIAA1440, a hypothetical protein predicted from the in silico analysis of long cDNAs isolated in the Kazusa cDNA sequencing project. Targeted disruption of INT1 results in growth arrest at the early blastocyst stage, activated caspase-3/7 that results in apoptosis, and impaired processing of U2 snRNA. INT1 has been demonstrated to be the largest subunit of the integrator complex which functions to mediate U1 and U2 snRNA 3'end processing.
