Background
- Background: DFF (DNA fragmentation factor) is the principle endonuclease responsible for DNA cleavage during apoptosis and exists as a heterodimer formed between the inhibitory subunit, DFF45, and the DNA nuclease, DFF40. DFF35/DFFA is a 35 kDa splice variant of the inhibitory subunit, DFF45. Similar to DFF45, DFF35 has been shown to heterodimerize with DFF40 and also negatively regulate its nuclease activity. In addition to regulating DFF40 activity, DFF35 has also been found to assist in the synthesis and folding of the DFF40 endonuclease.
