Background: Background: Par4 (prostate apoptosis response-4) was identified in a differential screen for pro-apoptotic genes in a prostate carcinoma cell line. Par4 activates apoptosis via the Fas prodeath pathway and by inhibition of NF-kappa-B transcriptional activity. Par4 may be a tumor suppressor. It has been shown to interact with a wide variety of proteins including atypical PKCs, and the Wilms' tumor suppressor.
