    Background

Background: Eukaryotic initiation factor 2 beta (eIF2beta) is the beta subunit of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 (eIF-2). eIF-2 forms a ternary complex with the 40S ribosomal subunit, GTP, and initiatior tRNA to function in the early steps of translation. The eIF-2 beta subunit catalyzes the exchange of GDP for GTP so that EIF-2 can function in another round of initiation.
