  • Target

    MBD2 (Methyl-CpG Binding Domain Protein 2 (MBD2))

    Alternative Name

    MBD2

    Background

Background: MBD2 (methyl-CpG-binding domain protein 2) binds methylated CpG sites and represses gene transcription. DNA methylation is a common mechanism of gene silencing and is central to the developmental process. Methyl-CpG binding proteins (MBPs) have a high affinity for methylated DNA and are proposed to mediate gene silencing via the recruitment of histone deacetylases and other transcriptional repressors to chromatin.
