  • Target

    PHF6 (PHD Finger Protein 6 (PHF6))

    Alternative Name

    PHF6

    Background

Background: PHF6 a member of the PHD (plant homeodomain)-like zinc-finger family of proteins and is suggested to function as an important transcription factor. PHF6 is ubiquitously expressed and localizes to the cell nucleus with prominent expression in the nucleolus. Expression in the nucleolus indicates an importance to ribosome biogenesis. Mutations in PHF6 are the cause of Borgeson-Forssman-Lehman syndrome (BFLS), an X-linked syndrome characterized by mental retardation, hypogonadism, hypometabolism, obesity, gynecomastia, and several forms of facial anomalies.
