Background: Background: rpL7a /SURF3 is a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit. Ribosomes are composed of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit that function to catalyze protein synthesis. RpL7a is a member of the L7AE family of ribosomal proteins that has been identified as a protein that interacts with nuclear receptors by interfering with DNA binding and transactivation. The RpL7A gene is included in the surfeit gene cluster and is designated SURF3.
