    PTPN12

    Background

Background: PTPN12 is a cytosolic protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) that contains a C-terminal PEST motif and plays an important role in cytoskeletal organization, immune cell activation, apoptosis, and embryonic development. PTPN12 appears to contribute to these cellular processes through its interaction with a variety of signaling and cytoskeletal-associated proteins. The recent discovery that PTPN12 is modulated by caspase-3 cleavage has led to the analysis of the role of PTPN12 and other PTPs as regulators of apoptosis.
