-
Alternative Name
- REST
-
Background
- Background: RE1-Silencing Transcription Factor (REST) is a transcriptional repressor that silences neuronal gene expression in non-neuronal cells by binding to the neuron-restrictive silencer element (NRSE). REST is a Kruppel-type zinc finger transcription factor that mediates repression through its interaction with the mSin3 and CoREST corepressors and the HDAC1 and HDAC2 histone deacetylases.
