It is encoded in humans by the VEGFC gene, which is located on chromosome 4q34. Enables vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 3 binding activity. Involved in several processes, including negative regulation of osteoblast differentiation, positive regulation of angiogenesis, and positive regulation of mesenchymal stem cell proliferation. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including cellular response to leukemia inhibitory factor, positive regulation of lymphangiogenesis, and positive regulation of peptidyl-tyrosine phosphorylation.
