SMOC1 (SPARC Related Modular Calcium Binding 1 (SMOC1))

    Alternative Name

    SMOC1

    Background

    Synonyms: Protein SOX-15, Protein SOX-12, Protein SOX-20, SOX15, SOX12, SOX20, SOX26, SOX27

Tissue Specificity: Widely expressed in fetal and adult tissues examined, highest level found in fetal spinal cord and adult brain and testis.

Background: This gene encodes a multi-domain secreted protein that may have a critical role in ocular and limb development. Mutations in this gene are associated with microphthalmia and limb anomalies. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
