    TYK2 (Tyrosine Kinase 2 (TYK2))

    Alternative Name

    TYK2

    Background

    Synonyms: RNA polymerase II-associated factor 1 homolog, hPAF1, Pancreatic differentiation protein 2, PAF1, PD2

Tissue Specificity: Isoform 1 is expressed in neurons of the cerebellum and hippocampus. Isoform 2 is expressed in thymus, spleen and lung.

Background: Non-receptor tyrosine-protein kinase TYK2 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the TYK2 gene. This gene encodes a member of the tyrosine kinase and, more specifically, the Janus kinases (JAKs) protein families. This protein associates with the cytoplasmic domain of type I and type II cytokine receptors and promulgate cytokine signals by phosphorylating receptor subunits. It is also a component of both the type I and type III interferon signaling pathways. As such, it may play a role in anti-viral immunity. A mutation in this gene has been associated with Immunodeficiency 35.
