  • Target

    Vinexin (Sorbs3) (Sorbin and SH3 Domain Containing 3 (Sorbs3))

    Alternative Name

    SORBS3

    Background

    Synonyms: Vinexin, SH3-containing adapter molecule 1, SCAM-1, Sorbin and SH3 domain-containing protein 3, SORBS3, SCAM1

Tissue Specificity: Both isoforms are expressed in different tissues like heart, placenta, brain, skeletal muscle and pancreas. Isoform beta is especially found in liver.

Background: Vinexin is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SORBS3 gene. It is mapped to 8p21.3. This gene encodes an SH3 domain-containing adaptor protein. The presence of SH3 domains play a role in this protein's ability to bind other cytoplasmic molecules and contribute to cystoskeletal organization, cell adhesion and migration, signaling, and gene expression. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
