Background: MUC4, also known as salivary mucin complex, exists on the surface of epithelial cells and is mainly expressed in normal tissues such as gastrointestinal tract, normal bladder epithelium, trachea, lung and testis. MUC4 is not expressed in normal pancreas, but it is expressed in most pancreatic tumors. It is also used in the study of gastric cancer, colon adenocarcinoma and lung adenocarcinoma.
