Background
-
Gene Symbols: NMB
Background: Neuromedin B (NMB) is one of the bombesin (BN)-related peptides in mammals. It was originally purified from pig spinal cord, and mainly presents in human central nervous system and gastrointestinal tract. Neuromedin regulates various physiological functions, including exocrine and endocrine secretions, smooth muscle contraction, feeding, blood pressure, blood glucose, body temperature and cell growth. NMB binds to its receptor, a G-protein coupled receptor, on the cell surface and triggers several intracellular signaling cascades including phospholipase activation, calcium mobilization and protein kinase C (PKC) activation.
