Background
-
Protein Background: SMAD1 is a transcriptional modulator that plays a role in various cellular processes, including embryonic development, cell differentiation, and tissue homeostasis. Upon BMP ligand binding to their receptors at the cell surface, is phosphorylated by activated type I BMP receptors (BMPRIs) and associates with SMAD1 to form a heteromeric complex which translocates into the nucleus acting as transcription factor. In turn, the hetero-trimeric complex recognizes cis-regulatory elements containing Smad Binding Elements (SBEs) to modulate the outcome of the signaling network.
Short Description: Recombinant SMAD1 protein was expressed in a baculovirus expression system as the full length protein (accession number NP_005891.1) with an N-terminal FLAG tag. The molecular weight of SMAD1 is 53.53 kDa.
