Background
GPR3, GPR6, and GPR12 make up a family of constitutively active G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that share greater than 50% identity and 65% similarity at the amino acid level and are highly expressed in hippocampus and cortex, regions of the brain . They upregulate cyclic AMP Levels and Promotes Neurite Outgrowth. GPR3 has been mapped to a chromosomal locus associated with increased risk for Alzheimers disease. GPR3 is believed be a factor in accumulation of beta-amyloid (a protein believed to cause the disease).
