Cateninbeta and cateningamma (plakoglobin), vertebrate homologs of Drosophila armadillo, function in cell adhesion and the Wnt signaling pathway. Cateningamma may have distinct roles in Wnt signaling and cancer via differential effects on downstream target genes.
