Mas - related G - protein - coupled receptors (Mrgprs) represent a large family of orphan receptors specifically expressed in small - diameter nociceptive primary sensory neurons. Physiological functions include mediation of itch or regulat ion of persistent pathological pain. Cortistatin - 14, which is involved in sleep regulation, locomotor activity, and cortical function, seems to be a high potency ligand at this receptor. Also, the multifunctional antibacterial protein LL - 37 has been shown to activate cells presumably through MRGPRX2.
