Background
- CD22 is a 140 kDa transmembrane type 1 protein, which is a member of the sialic acid binding immunoglobulin (Ig)-like lectin family of proteins. CD22 is a B-lymphocyte specific protein, which is differentially expressed during B-cell development. It is expressed in the cytoplasm of immature B-cells and on the surface of mature B-cells. The CD22 Molecule functions as an adhesion receptor, binding to alpha 2-6 linked sialic acids on glycoproteins expressed by leucocytes and erythrocytes. The molecule is also involved in the regulation of B-cell antigen receptor signaling.
