    Specificity
The reagents were evaluated for potency, purity and specificity using most or all of the following techniques: Immunoelectrophoresis, Cross-Immunoelectrophoresis, single Radial Immunodiffusion (Ouchterlony), block titration, ELISA, Immunoblotting and Enzyme Inhibition. Cross-reactivities against enzymes of other sources may occur but have not been determined.
    Purification
Ammonium Sulphate Precipitation and Ion Exchange Chromatography
    Immunogen
Uridine-5’-diphosphoglucose Pyrophosphorylase isolated and purified from Bovine liver. Freund’s complete adjuvant is used in the first step of the immunization procedure.

    Background
UGP2 is an important intermediary in mammalian carbohydrate interconversions. It transfers a glucose moiety from glucose-1-phosphate to MgUTP and forms UDP-glucose and MgPPi. In liver and muscle tissue,UDP-glucose is a direct precursor of glycogen, in lactating mammary gland it is converted to UDP-galactose which is then converted to lactose. The eukaryotic enzyme has no significant sequence similarity to the prokaryotic enzyme.Synonyms: UDP-glucose pyrophosphorylase, UDPGP, UGP1, UGPase, UTP-glucose-1-phosphate uridylyltransferase
