Background: S100A6 is a member of S100 protein family, which contains two EF hand calcium binding motifs. S100 gene includes at least 13 members, which are located on chromosome 1q21 as a cluster. The protein may play a role in stimulating calcium dependent insulin release, prolactin secretion and exocytosis.
