Characteristics
- The clone 100, a mouse monoclonal antibody, recognizes a 239 amino acid ~25 kDa human apoptosis regulator oncoprotein known as Bcl-2. It is an intracellular, integral membrane protein containing up to 4 Bcl-2 homology (BH) motifs which are found primarily in the nuclear envelope, endoplasmic reticulum and outer mitochondrial membrane. Bcl-2 is a conserved anti-apoptotic protein and plays important roles in the management of normal immunity. Nonrandom translocations with breakpoint at band q21 on chromosome 18 may cause bcl-2 gene deregulation and contribute to neoplastic transformation in human lymphomas.
