- EEF2K (Eukaryotic Elongation Factor-2 Kinase (EEF2K))
-
Alternative Name
- eEF2 Kinase
-
Background
- Background: Eukaryotic elongation factor-2 kinase (eEF2 kinase) is a calcium- and calmodulin-dependent kinase that phosphorylates eukaryotic elongation factor 2 (eEF2), a non-ribosomal factor that mediates ribosomal translocation. eEF2 is regulated by MAP kinase signaling and the mTOR signaling pathway. eEF2 is phosphorylated in response to stimuli that increases energy demand or reduces its supply. Phosphorylation inhibits eEF2 activity to conserve energy.
