Background
- Background: WDR77/MEP50 is a component of the methylosome, a large protein arginine methyltransferase complex that modifies specific arginines to dimethylarginines in splicesomal Sm proteins. WDR77/MEP50 associates with the methyltransferase JBP1 (PRMT5) and is important for methylosome activity. WDR77/MEP50 has also been shown to associate with the polycomb group protein, SUZ12, and histone H2A. In this context, WDR77/MEP50 is proposed to function as an adaptor between PRMT5 and its substrate H2A to regulate transcription.
