Background
- Background: Flap endonuclease 1 (Fen1) is a member of the XPG/RAD2 endonuclease family. Fen1 functions primarily as an endonuclease that removes 5'-overhangs during base-excision DNA repair and lagging strand DNA synthesis. For these processes Fen1 interacts with PCNA and the 9-1-1 DNA repair complex. Fen1 also possesses 5' to 3' exonuclease activity as well as RNase H activity.
