    Background
Background: E4F1 is a Kruppel-like family member identified as a cellular protein activated by the viral E1A oncoprotein. E4F1 can function as an activator or repressor of transcription to control embryonic and somatic cell proliferation and survival. E4F1 has also been identified as an atypical ubiquitin E3 ligase for p53.
