Background
- Background: PAK1 (p21-activated kinase 1) is part of the family of PAK serine/threonine p21-activating protein kinases involved in cell survival, migration, and invasion. PAK1 mediates signals from extracellular stimuli to the cytoplasm and nucleus via its association with the small GTP-binding proteins, Cdc42 and Rac. GTPase binding to PAK1 activates PAK1 kinase activity and leads to reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton and the phosphorylation of proteins involved in survival, energy metabolism, gene expression, cell motility, cell morphology, and the cell cycle.
