    Background

Background: PAK2 (p21-activated kinase 2) is part of the family of PAK serine/threonine p21-activating protein kinases involved in cell survival, migration, and invasion. The PAK family of proteins mediates signals from extracellular stimuli to the cytoplasm and nucleus via its association with the small GTP-binding proteins Cdc42 and Rac. PAK2 has been shown to play a specific role in apoptosis and cytoskeletal dynamics. During caspase-mediated apoptosis, PAK2 is cleaved and the C-terminal myristoylated fragment mediates cell death and actin reorganization via the JNK signaling pathway.
