    Background

Background: Protein arginine methylation is a form of post-translational modification that is catalyzed by protein arginine methyltransferases (PRMTs). Substrates of PRMT1 include RNA binding proteins, histones, and the DNA damage response proteins MRE11 and 53BP1. These interactions suggest a role for PRMT1 in the regulation of RNA metabolism, transcription and the DNA damage response.
