  • Target

    UBA2 (SUMO1 Activating Enzyme Subunit 2 (UBA2))

    Alternative Name

    SAE2

    Background

Background: SAE2 (SUMO-activating enzyme subunit 2) is also known as UBA2 (ubiquitin-like modifier activating enzyme 2). Heterodimers of SAE1 and SAE2 act as an E1 ligase for SUMO1, SUMO2, SUMO3, and probably SUMO4. Heterodimers mediate ATP-dependent activation of SUMO proteins followed by formation of a thioester bond between a SUMO protein and a conserved active site cysteine residue on UBA2/SAE2 [taken from the Universal Protein Resource (UniProt) Q9UBT2].
