    JUP (Junction Plakoglobin (JUP))

    Alternative Name

    Plakoglobin

    Background

Background: Plakoglobin (gamma-catenin) is a member of the catenin family of proteins. It bears an armadillo repeat motif and plays a role in cell signaling, but unlike beta-catenenin, which plays a major role in the Wnt signaling pathway, plakoglobin is thought to act as a tumor/metastasis suppressor. Plakoglobin also functions as a junctional plaque protein and forms complexes with cadherins and desmosomal cadherins.
