  • Target

    MMP19 (Matrix Metallopeptidase 19 (MMP19))

    Alternative Name

    MMP19

    Background

Synonyms: Protein Dok-7, Downstream of tyrosine kinase 7, DOK7, C4orf25,

Tissue Specificity: Preferentially expressed in skeletal muscle and heart. Present in thigh muscle, diaphragm and heart but not in the liver or spleen .

Background: Matrix metalloproteinase-19 (MMP-19) also known as matrix metalloproteinase RASI is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the MMP19 gene. This gene encodes a member of a family of proteins that are involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix in normal physiological processes, such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in disease processes, such as arthritis and metastasis. The encoded protein is secreted as an inactive proprotein, which is activated upon cleavage by extracellular proteases. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants for this gene.
