Background
- ADM, AM, PAMP, pro-adrenomedullin, preproadrenomedullin, proadrenomedullin N-20 terminal peptide,Adrenomedullin/ADM and proadrenomedullin N-20 terminal peptide/PAMP are peptide hormones that act as potent hypotensive and vasodilatator agents (PubMed:8387282, PubMed:9620797). Numerous actions have been reported most related to the physiologic control of fluid and electrolyte homeostasis. In the kidney, ADM is diuretic and natriuretic, and both ADM and PAMP inhibit aldosterone secretion by direct adrenal actions. In pituitary gland, both peptides at physiologically relevant doses inhibit basal ACTH secretion. Both peptides appear to act in brain and pituitary gland to facilitate the loss of plasma volume, actions which complement their hypotensive effects in blood vessels. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:8387282, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9620797}., [Adrenomedullin]: Peptide hormone that act as potent hypotensive and vasodilatator agents (PubMed:8387282). ADM function is mediated by the CALCRL-RAMP2 and CALCRL-RAMP3 receptor complexes with ADM showing the highest potency for the CALCRL-RAMP2 complex (PubMed:32296767, PubMed:9620797). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:32296767, ECO:0000269|PubMed:8387282, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9620797}., [Proadrenomedullin N-20 terminal peptide]: Peptide hormone that act as potent hypotensive and vasodilatator agents by inhibiting catecholamine secretion from sympathetic nerve endings and adrenal chromaffin cells (PubMed:10588445, PubMed:9578982). Acts as a ligand for MRGPRX2 receptor in mast cells (PubMed:15823563). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:15823563, ECO:0000303|PubMed:10588445, ECO:0000303|PubMed:9578982}., [Proadrenomedullin 9-20 terminal peptide]: Peptide hormone that act as potent hypotensive and vasodilatator agents by inhibiting catecholamine secretion from sympathetic nerve endings and adrenal chromaffin cells (PubMed:10588445, PubMed:9578982). Acts as a ligand for MRGPRX2 receptor in mast cells (PubMed:15823563, PubMed:34789875). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:15823563, ECO:0000269|PubMed:34789875, ECO:0000303|PubMed:10588445, ECO:0000303|PubMed:9578982}.,ADM,Human adrenomedullin is a 52 amino acid peptide (MW 6029) with the physiological effect of lowering blood pressure through vasodilatation, an effect it shares with calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP). In addition adrenomedullin has other cardiovascular effects including growth and development of both cardiovascular tissues and bone, and has effects in the central nervous system connected with the regulation of fluid balance.
