Specificity
- This antibody reacts with a 55kD single chain transmembrane glycoprotien, CD4, expressed on T helper lymphocytes, dendritic cells, microglial cells, and cortical thymus cells. Characteristic of CD4 is its four extracellular immunoglobulin-like domains which help it bind to HLA class II molecules when CD4+ T cells interact with antigenpresenting cells or target cells. Another interesting aspect of the CD4 receptor is the fact that it also serves as the primary receptor for the HIV virus. This antibody was clustered at the 2nd International Leucocyte Typing Workshop.
