Background
-
Protein Background: Glycine N-methyltransferase (GNMT) catalyzes the transfer of a methyl group from S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) to glycine to yield S-adenosylhomocysteine (SAH) and N-methylglycine (sarcosine). The enzyme appears to play a significant role in maintaining the physiologically appropriate SAM-to-SAH ratio, which is thought to be a critical component of the regulation of the methylation potential of the cell.
Short Description: Recombinant GNMT protein was expressed in E.coli as the full length protein (accession number NP_061833.1) with an N-terminal 6xHis tag. The molecular weight of the protein is 34.54 kDa.
Aliases: Glycine N-methyltransferase
