    Handling Advice

Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles, keep on ice when not in storage

    Storage

    -80 °C

    Storage Comment

Recombinant proteins in solution are temperature sensitive and must be stored at -80°C to prevent degradation. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles and keep on ice when not in storage.

    Alternative Name

    GAMT

    Background

Protein Background: Guanidinoacetate N-methyltransferase is also known as GAMT.The main function of GAMT is Converts guanidinoacetate to creatine, using S-adenosylmethionine as the methyl donor.Guanidinoacetate methyltransferase (GAMT) deficiency is an autosomal recessively inherited disorder of creatine biosynthesis . GAMT enzyme deficiency caused by mutations in the GAMT gene results in the depletion of creatine and accumulation of guanidinoacetate (GAA). Creatine has a buffering and transport function of high-energy phosphates in brain and muscle and is essential for growth cone migration, dendritic and axonal elongation, neurotransmitter release, and cotransmission on gamma amino butyric acid (GABA) postsynaptic receptors in the central nervous system.

Short Description: Recombinant GAMT protein was expressed in E.coli as the full length protein (accession number NP_000147.1) with an N-terminal 6xHis tag. The molecular weight of the protein is 28.11 kDa.

    Aliases: Guanidinoacetate N-methyltransferase
