    Specificity
The Human Mucin-1 antibody (BC-2) is reactive with 90 % of breast carcinomas, most epithelial ovarian carcinomas and a high portion of lung, urogenital and gastrointestinal carcinomas. Some reactivity is observed in the apical membrane of normal breast epithelium. Weak reactivity is also present in pancreas, kidney and lung. This monoclonal reacts with a 5 amino acid epitope of the MUC-1 core protein which is less affective for glycosylation than the epitopes detected by other MUC-1 antibodies. Since BC-2 shows an excellent reactivity on paraffin embedded material and is reactive with a stable epitope this monoclonal is an important marker in routine histopathology.
