Antigen
Alternative Name GJA1 / Cx43 (GJA1 Antibody Abstract)
Background Connexin43 is a 43 kDa member of the Alpha-type (group II) subfamily of the connexins. It is a component of gap junctions, the small channels linking the cytoplasm of adjacent cells and enabling signalling through the transfer of ions and metabolites. Phosphorylation of Connexin 43 at serine 368 regulates the permeability of the gap junction. Connexin 43 is the major protein of gap junctions in the heart, essential to synchronised contractions. It is also crucial in embryonic development and is associated with epilepsy.Synonyms: Connexin-43, GJAL, Gap junction 43 kDa heart protein, Gap junction alpha-1 protein
Gene ID 2697
NCBI Accession NP_000156
UniProt P17302
Pathways MAPK Signaling, Myometrial Relaxation and Contraction, Cell-Cell Junction Organization
