Background
- Background: The gene PTPN2, also known as TCPTP or TCP-TP, encodes for the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family member, tyrosine-protein phosphatase non-receptor type 2. PTPs are known to be signaling molecules that regulate a variety of cellular processes including cell growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation. PTPN2 dephosphorylates both receptor and non-receptor protein tyrosine kinases. PTPN2/TCPTP negatively regulates numerous signaling pathways and biological processes like hematopoiesis, inflammatory response, cell proliferation and differentiation, and glucose homeostasis [taken from NCBI Entrez Gene (Gene ID: 5771) and UniProtKB (Entry: P17706)].
