- Background
- Background: GBF1 is a guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) that promotes the exchange of GDP for GTP on ADP ribosylation factor 5(ARF5). GBF1 activity is inhibited by brefeldin, an antibiotic that interferes with protein transport. It has been show to be important to golgi assembly and the coordination of bidirectional transport. Due to these characteristics, GBF1 is also called Golgi-specific brefeldin A-resistance GEF 1.
