Background
- PSA represents a prostate cancer protein marker, strongly expressed in both normal and neoplastic prostatic tissue. This protein is expressed at lower levels also in in breast tumors, endometrium, or renal cell carcinomas. Together with Prostate-Specific Acid Phosphatase (PSAP), PSA expression is detected in blood samples and/or prostate tissue-related biopsies, in order to confirm the prostatic origin of metastatic carcinoma.
