Western Blotting (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin-embedded Sections) (IHC (p)), Immunocytochemistry (ICC), Immunohistochemistry (Frozen Sections) (IHC (fro))
    Specificity
Recognizes GFAP in human, mouse, rat, porcine and chicken. The antibody reacts with the carboxyterminal cys II fragment of GFAP as determined by western blotting and does not cross react with vimentin.
    Purification
    Purified
    Immunogen
G-A-5 is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody derived by fusion of PA1 mouse myeloma cells with spleen cells from BALB/c mice immunized with purified GFAP from porcine spinal cord.

Usage: Glial fibrillary acidic protein(GFAP) is a class III intermediate filament protein, a cytoskeletal protein that is located within the cytoplasm of astrocyctes and other glial cells e. g. Schwann cells and ependymal cells. In the central nervous system, GFAP is the major intermediate filament protein of mature astrocytes. GFAP plays an important role in maintaining the structure and stability of astrocytes during development and has also been shown to be involved in cellular communication, motility and mitosis. Mutations in GFAP give rise to Alexander disease, a rare and fatal disease of the central nervous system. Antibodies recognizing GFAP are commonly used to identify cells of astrocytic origin under normal and pathological conditions.
