    Background
Pdcd4 interacts with the RNA helicase eIF4A and the scaffolding protein eIF4G, two components of the translation initiation complex, and thus inhibits protein synthesis. Pdcd4 has also been shown to inhibit transcription factor activator protein-1 (AP-1), which regulates several events required for cell invasion, including expression of matrix metalloproteinases and cell motility. Pdcd4 localizes to the nucleus in proliferating cells, and its expression is modulated by cytokines in natural killer and T cells. Pdcd4 expression is down regulated with tumour progression in carcinomas of the lung, colon, prostate and breast.Synonyms: H731, Neoplastic transformation inhibitor protein, Nuclear antigen H731-like, Programmed cell death protein 4
