- Background
- The product of CAMK2A belongs to the serine/threonine protein kinases family, and to the Ca(2+)/calmodulin-dependent protein kinases subfamily. Calcium signaling is crucial for several aspects of plasticity at glutamatergic synapses. This calcium calmodulin-dependent protein kinase is composed of four different chains: alpha, beta, gamma, and delta. The alpha chain encoded by this gene is required for hippocampal long-term potentiation (LTP) and spatial learning. In addition to its calcium-calmodulin (CaM)-dependent activity, this protein can undergo autophosphorylation, resulting in CaM-independent activity. Two transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified for this gene.CAMK2A (Calcium/Calmodulin Dependent Protein Kinase II Alpha) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with CAMK2A include Conduct Disorder. Among its related pathways are ICos-ICosL Pathway in T-Helper Cell and Development Endothelin-1/EDNRA signaling. GO annotations related to this gene include protein homodimerization activity and protein kinase activity. An important paralog of this gene is CAMK2D. The product of CAMK2B belongs to the serine/threonine protein kinase family and to the Ca(2+)/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase subfamily. Calcium signaling is crucial for several aspects of plasticity at glutamatergic synapses. In mammalian cells, the enzyme is composed of four different chains: alpha, beta, gamma, and delta. The product of this gene is a beta chain. It is possible that distinct isoforms of this chain have different cellular localizations and interact differently with calmodulin. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. CAMK2B (Calcium/Calmodulin Dependent Protein Kinase II Beta) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with CAMK2B include Phencyclidine Abuse. Among its related pathways are ICos-ICosL Pathway in T-Helper Cell and Development Endothelin-1/EDNRA signaling. GO annotations related to this gene include protein homodimerization activity and protein kinase activity. An important paralog of this gene is CAMK2G. The product of CAMK2D belongs to the serine/threonine protein kinase family and to the Ca(2+)/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase subfamily. The product of this gene is a delta chain. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms. Distinct isoforms of this chain have different expression patterns.CAMK2D (Calcium/Calmodulin Dependent Protein Kinase II Delta) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with CAMK2D include Dilated Cardiomyopathy and Cardiomyopathy. Among its related pathways are ICos-ICosL Pathway in T-Helper Cell and Development Endothelin-1/EDNRA signaling.
