IFN-γRα is a protein encoded by the IFNGR1 gene which is approximately 54,4 kDa. IFN-γRα is localised to the cell membrane and is involved in influenza A, Th17 cell differentiation, interferon gamma signalling, toxoplasmosis and type I interferon signalling pathways. It is a ligand-binding chain of the gamma interferon receptor which also includes IFNGR2. It associates with IFNGR2 to form a receptor for the cytokine interferon gamma. It is also associated with susceptibility to Helicobacter pylori infection. IFN-γRα is expressed in the nervous system, blood, spleen, lymph node and intestine. Mutations in the IFNGR1 gene result in immunodeficiency 27A and B. STJ93645 was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity-chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen.
