Background
- Background: RAF1 is a mitogen activated kinase kinase kinase (MAPKKK). In response to extracellular signals, RAF1 phosphorylates the MEK1 and MEK2 MAP kinase kinases. MEK1 and MEK2 subsequently phosphorylate and activate the ERK1 and ERK2 MAP kinases to exert pleiotropic effects on cellular functions such as growth, division, differentiation, motility, and apoptosis. RAF1 associates with the Ras family of membrane GTPases and functions downstream of Ras activity.
